Keeping a fish tank cool in summer
Warm water holds less oxygen. Most tropical fish are fine up to about 82°F; above that, it's time to cool the tank.

How fans cool
A fan blowing across the surface speeds up evaporation, and evaporation takes heat with it. DaToo fans lower the water about 4 to 7°F, more in dry air.
Choosing a fan
One or two fans for small tanks, three or four for long ones. The mini fan has two speeds for 1–15 gallons.
Automate it
A fan controller switches the fan on above your set temperature and off below it, so the tank doesn't get cold at night.
Other tips
- Close curtains on the tank side.
- Turn the light off during the hottest hours.
- Add an air stone — more oxygen helps fish cope.
- Top up evaporated water with dechlorinated water.
